The Finnish-born artist Dea Juris makes her debut as Dear Dea with her song, "Coffee,? the perfect introduction to her soulful alt-pop sound. ?Coffee? spotlights Dea?s velvety and dulcet vocals, as Dear Dea sings about a relationship falling apart and the tug-and-pull of the cautiousness and conflict that arises nearing a break up. While the instrumental is serene and at-times dreamy, the piano and synthesizer melodies dance intricately while the bass creates a moody groove that anchors the track together. Dear Dea is able to evoke emotions through her lyrics on diminishing love and the lush instrumentations on ?Coffee?, effortlessly blending elements of soul, pop, and alternative music to create a sound that is uniquely her own. ?Coffee?s an interesting one for me because I actually wrote the chorus with Emiliano (the other part of the duo I?m in, Eda Wolf) around 2017 for a totally different song in another key and slightly different chords. When I was reading Questlove?s Creative Quest he had a chapter about re-using material. The idea was to go back to old ideas you?ve had and rework them if you?re having a tough time coming up with new ones. I had written the verses and pre-choruses of Coffee around the time that I read that chapter, and was having a hard time writing a chorus, so I decided to try Questlove?s idea for Coffee.?
