Bio
With ‘Mosaïque’, the gypsy guitar, drawing on its strong roots, explores new horizons: two trios, two worlds, one guitar, and a musical journey that combines tradition, modernity and virtuosity.
After several critically acclaimed projects (Memories of Paris, Margin Call, Melkoni Project and Storyboard – 4 Clefs Télérama), guitarist Gwen Cahue returns with ‘Mosaïque’, an album that celebrates the gypsy guitar in all its facets, in its most authentic form, as a trio (with rhythm guitar and double bass), while exploring new horizons.
The project is based on a repertoire combining original compositions and jazz standards, designed to reveal the different facets of gypsy guitar, supported by two different rhythm sections (guitar/double bass) with complementary aesthetics.
The original compositions display a resolutely modern vision of gypsy aesthetics, characterised by the opening up of a musical universe served by the finesse of the arrangements.
This first vein dialogues and weaves links with a second inspiration turned towards the roots of gypsy swing: a reinterpretation of a standard performed by Django Reinhardt (Body and Soul), a nod to Latin music (Brazil Sketch, Stochelo Express, in tribute to the great gypsy guitarist Stochelo Rosenberg), an opening towards the art of ballads and the world of pianists (The Peacocks, by Jimmy Rowles; In Walked Bud, by Thelonious Monk).
