"Working with Mathieu Lamboley has been a privilege. I believe that Dolphin Man would not be the film it is if it were not for his music. It all started with 3 themes. Mathieu sent them to me and I picked the Ouverture as the main theme. "There is a dolphin dormant in all of us?, says Jacques Mayol in the beginning of the film. The first time I heard Mathieu?s music I discovered the entire feel of Dolphin Man, what this film should feel like. We worked intensely in great detail for months. Every single cue went back and forth many times until it was perfect. Mathieu was always there, patient, helping, finding the right sounds. There are many different layers of storytelling Dolphin Man: Mayol?s personal story, free-diving, ecology, sport, death, the body's failings. The major bet for the film was for it to feel as one. People ask me, how is it that all these different levels of narrative flow so naturally as one? The secret is the music. It works underneath, uniting everything. And Mathieu is a very low profile, sensitive and ingenious artist to work with. He understands immediately and he has a great instinct for detail and undertones. Dolphin Man works a lot with themes that are hidden and the music works subconsciously. The spectator is slowly entering the depths of the human heart and the depths of the sea.
