Bio
"The Lady and the Boat" is an album of poems and compositions of the greek singer Xanthoula Dakovanou,
After offering us vocal journeys in Balkan Polyphonies with her album " Gaitani " by Trio Tzane (Naive), which had a big success in France and the rest of the world, Xanthoula is coming back to tell us vocal stories from her natal Greece up to the lands of India.
The project was born in Paris, after Xanthoula's meeting with musicians specialized in indian classical music (bansuri flute by Guillaume Barraud, sitar by Kengo Saito, tablas by Prabhu Edouard), afghan music (rubab by Kengo Saito) and iranian music (percussions by Antoine Morineau). The santouri of the greek virtuose Ourania Lampropoulou accompanies the voice of Xanthoula and the cello of Sofia Efkleidou completes this original synthesis.
In this first personal album, the singer explores her relationships with the Orient. It is a musical meeting of greek traditional modes and rhythms with indian classical music; an album plenty of improvisations, marked by the feminin element, the moon and the water. Original melodies and arrangements by virtuose musicians; a surprising and enchanting mix of asian and mediterranean sounds.
As Xanthoula sings to us :
"The Lady is looking at the Boat. She is hesitating for a while, and then she goes. She doesn't know where this Boat is taking her. A red star is lighting her path. And it was night, and then dawn..."
